Activities

We have lined up the perfect slate of activities for the ultimate guys weekend.  Some will be for skill improvement like working on a car engine or gourmet grilling, some will be for leisure and new hobbies like beer tasting or playing poker, and some will be for more primal entertainment like shooting a rifle.  And each will be taught by an expert with years of experience.  So whether your goal is to learn a new skill, have a great time, or just not embarrass yourself on the next company outing, we’ll have you covered.

Basic Survival with a Marine
Taught by: Cody Evenhus

Having taught courses to both marines and attendees of Canyon Ranch, Cody will bring his expertise after eight years in the U.S. Marine Corps.  Cody recently spent a year as a platoon seargant in Dijibouti, Africa where his responsibilities included base security, patrols, and working with local tribes.  Cody will teach a survival 101 including the psychology of survival and water, food, and shelter expertise needed when out in the elements.

Beer Tasting

Learn from one of the Bay Area's best brewmasters, tasting some great local and international beer. 

Building a fire
Always wonder about the best way to build a fire?  Now know how to do it safely and effectively.

Camo Hike with Navy Seal
Learn how to put on camaflauge and hike through the woods without being detected.

Car Engines 101
Learn some engine basics so you can change a tire or your oil, or at least know what you’re talking about next time you visit the mechanic.

Cigar Tasting

Guitar
Get the introduction to playing guitar to get you well on your way to leading the sing-a-long around the camp fire.

Horse shoe pitching
Taught by: Rick Bermingham and Casey Sluys

Combined Rick and Casey have been pitching horseshoes for over 50 years. Rick is three time defending state champion.  In 2007 he finished 11th in the World Horseshoe Pitching Championships, having finsihed 15th in 2005.  Currently President of the Sonoma County Club, Casey has served as President of the Northern CA Charter for 6 years and attended all World Horseshoe Pitching Championships since 1988.  Learn from the best and become the star of every BBQ.  Don't miss out!

Nature Hike: What Can I Eat in the Woods?

Fret no more whether or not you can eat that acorn lying on the ground.

Orienteering
Learn navigational skills using a map and compass to navigate from point to point in diverse and unfamiliar terrain in what was originally a training exercise in land navigation for military officers.

Poker
Taught by: Jim Leitner
Jim Leitner has been playing professional poker full-time since 2002 and is a member of the Pro Poker Exchange.  He has instructed for the WPT Boot Camp (both tournament and cash game) and is known for his ability to communicate as a teacher.  He is going to run two great classes, one for beginners and one for intermediate which will have you prepared to dominate the camp poker tournament.  Don't miss out!

Police training session
Go through the training that local police go through in order to protect and serve.
